New Bedford’s Best Bird Photo Contest
7/1 – 10/11
During the run of the exhibit, people will be invited to participate in an online bird photo exhibition, via Instagram, using #NBbestbird.
Anyone can participate! How to enter:
- Take a photo of a bird in the wild, in your backyard, or even a selfie with a bird. Any bird-related images qualify!
- Post the image on your personal Instagram and tag us @nbam_aw with the hashtag #NBbestbird.
- Join us for the Best Bird Photo Contest Award Ceremony on 10/11/2018, 5PM – 8PM . Winners announced at 7PM.
Prizes include a free membership, a fancy NBAM/AW! mug, and more!
Nesting Nights, Group Knitting in the Galleries

Drop-in knitting and crochet group in the galleries. Bring your own projects to work on while hanging out with other knitters and special guest fiber artists who will be available to instruct, give pointers, and challenge your knitting skills!

Take some time out before your busy day to explore local Mass Audubon Sanctuaries. Participants are invited to reconnect with nature, listen and look for native birds, and experience the landscape.

Birding: Shaw Farm Trail in Fairhaven
7/28, 8-10 am
Take a morning walk with the Buzzards Bay Coalition, the New Bedford Art Museum, and experienced local birder Nate Marchessault to look and listen for songbirds, shorebirds, and raptors at Nasketucket Bay State Reservation in Mattapoisett. The walk will follow Shaw Farm Trail through the woods to the beach overlooking Nasketucket Bay.

AUDUBON EXHIBITION TURNOVER
8/22 – 8/24, between 12 – 4 PM
The exhibition of John James Audubon prints started with 31 bird species that are declining today on exhibit in the Museum’s Skylight Gallery. From August 22nd through August 24th, the prints will slowly be replaced by 31 species of birds that are increasing in New England and New York. The exhibition literally evolves, beckoning bird lovers to return to the Museum for something new several times throughout the run of the exhibition.

Join Susan Gabert as she unpacks the history of the women in Audubon’s life through a female lens. This interactive lecture tracks Audubon’s mother, step-mother, female workers, and of course his wife and business partner Lucy Audubon.
