During the run of the Birds of the First Light & Longhouses exhibition, the Museum will be collaborating with a variety of organizations around the city on Audubon related events. Please check back often for updates!

New Bedford’s Best Bird Photo Contest

7/1 – 10/11

During the run of the exhibit, people will be invited to participate in an online bird photo exhibition, via Instagram, using #NBbestbird

Anyone can participate! How to enter:

  1. Take a photo of a bird in the wild, in your backyard, or even a selfie with a bird. Any bird-related images qualify!
  2. Post the image on your personal Instagram and tag us @nbam_aw with the hashtag #NBbestbird.
  3. Join us for the Best Bird Photo Contest Award Ceremony on 10/11/2018, 5PM – 8PM . Winners announced at 7PM.

Prizes include a free membership, a fancy NBAM/AW! mug, and more!

Nesting Nights, Group Knitting in the Galleries

6/21 don’t miss nationally renowned fiber artist, Adrienne Sloane. A Massachusetts studio artist, Sloane has shown her work nationally for over 25 years. She is both a hand and machine knitter. Her work has been published in Fiberarts, American Craft, Surface Design Journal, to just name a few.

Drop-in knitting and crochet group in the galleries. Bring your own projects to work on while hanging out with other knitters and special guest fiber artists who will be available to instruct, give pointers, and challenge your knitting skills!

You are invited to attend an evening of dining & viewing. On 6/28/2018 from 6 PM – 9 PM, enjoy a magnificent meal and cash bar at the ionic Wamsutta Club. Followed by an insightful private tour of the Audubon exhibition at the New Bedford Art Museum/ArtWorks!, where coffee and dessert by The Baker New Bedford will be served. Cocktails will start at the Wamsutta Club at 6:00 p.m., followed by dinner. Transportation to the Museum for dessert and a private tour will be provided. All proceeds will go to support the BIRDS OF THE FIRST LIGHT AND LONGHOUSE exhibition and the James Arnold Mansion.

Take a morning walk with the Buzzards Bay Coalition, the New Bedford Art Museum, and experienced local birder Nate Marchessault to look and listen for songbirds, shorebirds, and raptors at Nasketucket Bay State Reservation in Mattapoisett. The walk will follow Shaw Farm Trail through the woods to the beach overlooking Nasketucket Bay.

WOMEN IN AUDUBON’S LIFE: The Indefatigable Lucy
