CALL FOR ARTISTS
Kicking off our 30th-anniversary celebration, the Best of SouthCoast Artists Exhibition is an opportunity to honor the region’s artistic excellence and heritage, champion artists of all backgrounds who thrive creatively in the SouthCoast , and look ahead to our bright and creative future.
HOW TO SUBMIT
Entry fee: $40 for 5 images
Additional $5 per image after your fifth image. (max 10 images)
Application Requirements
- All work must be original, designed, and created by the artist applicant
- Works may be 2D or 3D
- Work needs to arrive at the gallery ready to hang but framing is not required. Magnets, clips, and other methods can be used.
- There is no size restriction for this exhibition.
- All submissions must be from artists who are residents of the Massachusetts and Rhode Island South Coast region.

ABOUT THE JUROR
Carmen Hermo is the incoming Lorraine and Alan Bressler Curator of Contemporary Art at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, starting in fall 2024. Previously, she was Associate Curator at the Brooklyn Museum’s Center for Feminist Art, where her exhibitions included María Magdalena Campos-Pons: Behold (2024), Baseera Khan: I Am an Archive (2021), Kameelah Janan Rasheed: Are We Reading Closely? (2020), and more. She co-curated feminist-focused collections like Half the Picture (2018), founded the Young Leadership Council, and led the Contemporary Art Committee.
Before the Brooklyn Museum, Carmen was Assistant Curator for Collections at the Guggenheim, co-curating exhibitions like Storylines (2015) and Now’s the Time (2018). She has also worked with the Whitney Museum and MoMA collections. Her independent projects include CURRENTS (A.I.R. Gallery, 2020) and New Voices (Print Center NY, 2023), and she has contributed essays on contemporary artists and exhibitions.
Carmen received her B.A. in Art History and English from the University of Richmond and her M.A. in Art History from Hunter College, where she received the Estrellita Brodsky Scholarship. She is the child of immigrants from Spain and grew up in New Jersey. In 2019, she was honored by Project for Empty Space with a Badass Art Woman Award.
